Classical Homeopathy

“Over the course of homeopathic healing, people often feel stronger, more resilient, and more authentically themselves than before. They may even forget the specific problem for which they sought consultation in the first place. Successful homeopathic treatment eventually leads to freedom to experience the present as it is, without oppressive burden from the past. Responses can be more spontaneous and creative, allowing for more enjoyment of life.” (Pamela Pappas, MD)

As most conventional doctors, I too was skeptic of Homeopathy and doubted that such nontraditional treatments would work.

After I had my second child, I started struggling with health challenges that initially responded to conventional treatment, but, after a while, symptoms reoccurred and progressed despite medications. Not knowing what to do, I turned to homeopathy, often called a ‘last resort’ medicine. I was astonished when my chronic problem resolved 24 hours after I took those small, white, sugary pills. I was even more surprised when I realized that my energy and vitality also improved. I was able to stop the medications that I was taking, and I have been medication free ever since.

I have experienced firsthand how homeopathy works with my son, too. I have seen his ear pain subside less than an hour after taking the right remedy, and his eardrum inflammation resolve in a day without any medications. Not only did his recurrent sinus and ear infection resolve, but his lack of appetite and chronic cough also improved, and he started to thrive once again.

Homeopaths look at the patient as a whole, treating people based on genetic and personal health history, body type and current physical, emotional and mental symptoms. Treatments are “individualized” for each person – it is not uncommon for different people with the same condition to receive different treatments.

Homeopathy can treat a wide variety of medical conditions including behavioral and mental health issues, many common acute illnesses, minor trauma and injuries, as well as a variety of chronic conditions. Homeopathy is also a wonderful, gentle way to help healthy children and adults to maintain their overall health and wellbeing.

One of the main tenets of Homeopathy is called the Law of Similars, and it states that a medicinal substance that can create a set of symptoms in a healthy individual can treat a sick individual who is manifesting similar symptoms. This law has been found in writings of Hippocrates as well as in ancient Indian and Chinese texts. In conventional medicine, the Law of Similars is somewhat akin to using allergy shots, when you inject into the body the same substance that the patient is allergic to.

Homeopathy is widely used throughout the world. It is integrated into the national health care systems of many countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Brazil and Mexico. Since the 1830s, it has been the preferred medicine of members of Britain’s Royal Family and it is common throughout Europe. Almost all French pharmacies dispense homeopathic remedies, which are covered by the national health insurances in several European countries.

Here is some more information from the National Center of Homeopathy:

Homeopathy is a system of medical therapy that uses very small doses of medicines, or remedies. These remedies are prepared from substances found in nature. Nevertheless, homeopathy should not be confused with herbal medicine. These two systems of medicine are very different. Herbal medicine uses tinctures of botanical substances, whereas homeopaths use ultra-diluted “micro” doses made from not only plants, but minerals or any other substance found in nature. The homeopathic doctor chooses the proper remedy by following a special rule of nature called the Law of Similars. This law states “like cures like,” or that a medicine can cure a sick person if it can cause similar sickness in a healthy person. For instance, if you peel an onion, your eyes burn, itch and water. You might also have a runny nose and begin to sneeze. If you had similar symptoms during a cold or allergy attack, such as a runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing, a homeopathic micro-dose of the remedy Allium cepa (red onion) would help your body heal itself. This may sound strange but in homeopathy we do not treat diseases, but treat the person who is sick. Whether a person has a chronic or an acute disease, all of their symptoms, whether physical, mental or emotional form a whole representing a state of imbalance very specific to this individual. The goal of the homeopath is to recognize through the unique expression of symptoms of a patient the pattern of disturbed energy and identify among the great number of remedies available the one most homeopathic, or most similar to, the patient’s disease.
